Rapper DMX faces another
traffic violation
Associated Press, December
18, 2004
NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. (AP) --
Rapper DMX was arrested for allegedly speeding on a highway in
upstate New York, a week after he pleaded guilty to driving through
an airport parking gate while on drugs.
The 33-year-old rapper, whose
real name is Earl Simmons, was pulled over Wednesday evening
on Interstate 684 after driving 104 m.p.h. (167 km/h) in a 65
m.p.h. zone, police said.
Because his licence had been
suspended after the airport incident, Simmons was arrested on
charges of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. State
police said he was also charged with speeding and driving an
unregistered vehicle.
Simmons was released on $350
bail and ordered to appear in court Jan. 18.
Simmons was charged in June
with smashing into a gate with his vehicle at Kennedy airport
after telling a parking lot attendant he was a federal agent.
He later admitted to being on Valium at the time.
Simmons pleaded guilty in that
case last week and was sentenced to a conditional discharge,
meaning further violations within a year could land him in jail.
He also was fined and ordered to forfeit his sport utility vehicle.
Prosecutors were investigating
whether Wednesday's speeding arrest violated the terms of Simmons's
discharge.
